Letter of the alphabet or ANSI Letter is a paper size standard defined by the American National Standards Institute, ordinarily used as abode or office stationery in the United States, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Republic of costa rica, Mexico, Panama, Republic of guatemala, the Dominican Democracy and the Philippines. The precise origins of the dimensions of US letter-size newspaper (viii.5 × xi in) are not known. The related paper size known as half letter of the alphabet, statement, or organizer L is exactly one half of the US Alphabetic character size: viii.five by 5.5 inches (215.9 by 139.vii mm) (8.5 × 5.five in).
